Beautifully Damaged

By now, I'm beginning to wonder if my wounds will ever heal.

I've been running around Halloween parties for days, slept on cemeteries, absolved myself of my sins in churches, and indulged in a whole range of activities I really can't tell you about here. Not without getting a few people arrested, anyway. And it's been tough. My body is bruised, scratched, cut up and generally looks like it's been through several wars. Which isn't that far from the truth. Although I suspect most wars involve way less sex and better sleeping arrangements.

Now, you know my stance on cosmetic surgery. I'm not a fan. Never needed it, never wanted it, and frankly, I find the whole idea of having someone improve upon what nature has already perfected rather insulting. Admittedly, that's an easy position to take when you look like me.

So, once again, I'll put my faith in my genetics. They've never let me down before, and I see no reason why they shouldn't be perfectly capable of restoring this battered body to its usual magnificent state. It might take a little longer this time, though and in the meantime, I figured there was no reason to deprive the public of my presence. Or the opportunity to admire the damage.

And what better place to put myself on display than The Continental?

It was high time I returned to Voltage Sundays anyway. I've actually been called out for not showing up on a Monday, no less. Apparently, my absence doesn't go unnoticed. Which is hardly surprising, but still. It's nice to be missed and so last Sunday, I made my way to the Conti, bruises, scratches and all, and joined the Halloween festivities.

And what a party it was.

Not that I expected anything less. The Continental has always been one of those places that knows how to throw a proper party, and their Halloween edition was right up there with the best of them. Great music, a fabulous crowd and enough frightening creatures. Looking around, I couldn't help thinking that we're really not making it any easier to convince outsiders that we're a perfectly normal bunch of people. I mean, just look at us.

Actually, don't. Or do. That's what the pictures are for.

And we're not even done yet. There are still a few Halloween parties on my calendar, a couple more haunted affairs to attend, and probably several opportunities for decisions I'll regret the morning after. Assuming I remember them in the first place.

But you know me. Give me something sinful and I'll indulge in it. Give me something forbidden and I'll probably ask why it took you so long to offer it. And if there's a party involved, well, you can hardly expect me to stay home and behave myself. So I'll make a few more rounds, collect a few more bruises, and hopefully manage to keep most of my body parts attached.

And then, when Halloween is finally over, things can return to business as usual. Being gorgeous.

Trust me.

Today's last photo is, of course, of me. But for once, I'm not the one behind the camera! This one was taken by Jove (you can spot him above in his Jester costume). He's a great photographer, so do yourself a favour and check out his Flickr page!
