I Need to Be Seen
Will there ever be a moment when we can leave the swimwear folded up and just wear whatever we’ve been buying all those weekends and at all those malls? Because my friends, I’m beginning to feel undervalued.
Sure, I have the body. I feel the looks. And yes, they still make me feel good… but fashion, people. Fashion! Fashion is the armor we wear to survive the reality of everyday life… How are we supposed to live the high life if we’re not wearing high heels? I know people are going to stare. I just want to make it worth their while.
Besides, I need to Be Seen ™. You know that about me.
For whatever else I claim, eventually it always boils down to that. I need the attention and you need me in your midst so you can feel that whatever was happening really was the place to be, because I was there. I like how we’ve managed to balance those needs together and if you ever stop doing your part, I’ll mention it in your retirement speech.
Just don’t expect a gold watch, though. Not in this economy.
That was quite a long buildup to what I actually wanted to tell you, but it seems we’ve touched on something that matters deeply to me.
Anyway. Monday.
For that dreaded day when all the good stuff is still at the cleaners and we’d probably be wearing something subpar anyway, an invitation to Sunvana’s pool came at the right moment to be honest. Jayce and Duda had turned the water temperature up just a notch. It really is October, after all, although quite a few people seemed to arrive hot already.
And I don’t just mean visually, you’ll have the pictures for that, stuff was going on. Which amused me, because from what I heard, last week at the Breathe Baths little to nothing happened. I could be mistaken, of course, maybe I wasn’t told everything. Not that I have a problem with that. But if you do want me to know what happened, perhaps don’t organize your events somewhere I have to pay to get in. I have principles. Somewhere.
And that’s one of the things I like about Duda and Jayce with Sunvana. We’re simply welcome. No complicated negotiations. No standing outside wondering whether curiosity is worth the admission fee. Just turn up, get in, take off way more than fashion would normally permit and see where the night takes us.
And judging by Monday, it took some people rather further than others. Warm water, hot bodies, things happening around the pool and me, right in the middle of it with a camera.
Maybe I can survive another day without the high heels.
Just don’t make a habit of it.
