Side Effects May Include Dancing
Oh, I love a good Saturday night of club hopping. When The List is full and the schedules do not overlap too much, I count myself lucky. It also helps that I seem to have some kind of special arrangement with Uber, or perhaps just a driver willing to go to unusual lengths for me. Why, you ask? Well, quid pro quo. The rest I leave to your imagination. The important thing is that I can hop clubs with no effort.
Sunvana was first on the schedule, and it lived up to its name. Did I tell you before that Lio is doing his final rounds before summer? Of course I did. Even a farewell tour eventually reaches its last stop. We gathered in numbers beneath the sun, following the beats as the horizon slowly darkened. It matched the mood perfectly as we watched Lio set sail for a well-earned break. Fortunately, nightlife rarely leaves much room for grief.
Afterneath was next. Packed house, louder guitars, heavier beats, rock, energy and everything we needed to keep moving. It was good to be back, good to see Nikki again and catch up with a few familiar faces before heading to what is slowly becoming a mandatory stop on any respectable Saturday night. Der Rote Hase.
Dante has made the place his Saturday residence and I could not be happier about it. I love the club. I love the music. It is one of those rare places that feels intense and relaxed at the same time. We slowed things down a little, spent some time catching up, took care of our medication, changed outfits, and soaked in the red glow while Dante supplied his funky soundtrack.
All of that before the literal highlight of the evening, because if there is one thing everybody knows about NITE, it is that their FX team operates on a completely different level. The lights, the visuals, the effects. Everything feels bigger there. But before I get to that, let me take a step back for a moment.
These were not just regular sets at NITE. They were part of the Relay For Life Benefit Event, a weekend-long fundraiser supporting the American Cancer Society. You know my views on medication. I firmly believe everyone deserves access to the best of them, and that only happens when research receives the support it needs. Better treatments, better outcomes, fewer people suffering.
The event is still running as I write this, so consider this a friendly nudge. Pick a venue from the schedule, stop by, enjoy some music and, if you can, contribute to a cause that matters.
Now, back to NITE.
The effects exploded into life. Lasers cut through the darkness, colours shifted across all of us on the dancefloor and it transformed every few minutes into something completely different. Between the music, the visuals and the familiar faces around me, I realised once again why nights like these remain my favourite way to spend a Saturday.
Not because of any single venue or DJ, but because for a few hours, everyone decides to show up. I mean; look at us!
