Supply and Demand

After a few weeks away, Stigmata opened its doors again this week.

Some people say events should be regular. Predictable. Something you can put in your calendar and count on. Personally, I hardly ever know where I’ll be tomorrow, an hour from now, or regularly whose bed I woke up in this morning, so I’ve never been that attached to predictability.

Besides, I’d rather wait a little and know I’m getting something good.

That’s pretty much how Stigmata works. It doesn’t need to be there every week. When it is, it just needs to be worth showing up for.

Last Tuesday was supposed to be one of those nights, and with three sets from Simone, Vigilante and Selene, it delivered on that promise.

It was especially good to see Simone again. We met about a year ago at Chaos & Calm, and still share some very fond memories of that place, before Izzy had to leave it behind. She really was something, and so was the community she’d created around her. Some places and people disappear and you move on. Others somehow keep turning up in conversations long after they’re gone.

Anyway. More than three hours of good music, good fun and great people? You can call me for that any day.

Not that the evening went entirely without complications.

I’d been hoping to get some new pills at the start of the week, but supplies were running late. I didn’t know why and decided perhaps this wasn’t the ideal moment to ask. My dealer was busy shaving people’s heads in the middle of the dance floor, and I’ve learned that when someone responsible for your recreational pharmaceuticals suddenly starts operating a barbershop at a party, detailed questions about supply-chain management can wait.

Fortunately, I still had a few left from another dealer.
Unfortunately, my attempt at taking one discreetly appears to have been considerably less discreet than I imagined.

So now I can only hope I’m still on the shortlist when the next shipment hits the docks. We’ll see.

Apart from the minor problems of pharmaceutical logistics, involuntary-looking haircuts and my continuing inability to understand the concept of discretion, everything went remarkably smoothly.

The pictures suggest we had a rather good time and I even remember most of it.
