They Had Me at AF

So, after my visit to the baths, which I left feeling remarkably invigorated and pleasantly post-coital, I checked my phone. They make you put those in a locker at The Continental baths. I assume that’s to stop people taking pictures in there, although you’d have to be a real pervert to photograph people in a situation like that anyway.

Moving swiftly on.

The moment I got outside and reunited with modern communications, I saw a message from Katt. I love Katt. I love seeing a message from Katt even more, because it generally means something great is about to happen and, almost as importantly, we’re all going to look good while it happens. I’ve raved about the way she lights up her club before, so I won’t do the whole thing again. Just trust me.

This Friday it was GRUNGE AF. Frankly, the AF would probably have been sufficient motivation for me to Uber over. Or just fuck. But these nights are pretty great too.

First, you need to know how to get there. You take those stairs down, go around that corner, take a left, through the door, watch your head if you’re taller than me, and suddenly you’re there. That basement-like little room at Sonance.

I love it down there.

One of my favorite things about Sonance is how little it seems to care about sticking to one musical identity. My ears can get pounded by an unreasonable number of beats per minute one night, then I’ll return another evening and find live singers instead. Friday was one of those nights.

We had Ivy first and Willow later, and the room was packed. Obviously. They were great, and almost everyone seemed to stay right through to the end. Admittedly, the remarkable stamina of the audience may also have had something to do with Markus wandering around being exceptionally generous with his drops.

Business appears to be going rather well for him these days. Perhaps he’s been getting some publicity lately. No idea where.

Anyway, that’s really the whole story. No fights. No black eyes. Nobody required emergency stretching. I didn’t publicly insult a drug dealer and, as far as I remember, nobody had their head shaved.

Just a packed little basement, Ivy and Willow, Markus doing his bit for audience retention, and a room full of people having a very good Friday night.

I had fun.
From the looks of everyone else, I wasn’t alone.
And after the week I’ve had, I’m calling that personal growth.
