You Had To Be There

My social calendar was somewhat of a disaster this weekend. The fun kind, obviously. It had me hopping from party to party like the glamorous social butterfly you know me to be. After all, it's important to Be Seen. People forget remarkably fast if you leave them unattended, so every now and then I have to remind them that I’m still around and still looking offensively attractive.

Saturday belonged to NITE. They'd been hyping it for weeks and, judging by the queue outside before the doors even opened, everyone had bought into it. The theme was Pharaohs or Ancient Egypt or something along those lines. I can't say I paid much attention because I was busy having an outfit crisis.

Well... I thought I was… I'd gone through the usual routine of trying on half my wardrobe, convincing myself I'd somehow accumulated hundreds of outfits while simultaneously owning absolutely nothing to wear. Fashion is a cruel mistress. Thankfully, she eventually rewarded my persistence.

The final result? Let's just say Cleopatra would've taken one look at me, sighed dramatically and started asking where I'd bought the outfit.

Having learned from previous visits, I didn’t touch my camera all the time. NITE is one of those places where the lighting and visual effects are so immersive that photos never quite capture it. It's one of those events where you really had to be there. Still, I managed to salvage a handful.

The evening before, I spent some time at Lux Mortem. You may remember I wrote about Lux a few months ago. If you're into metal, and I mean the music rather than the material holding office buildings together, you really owe it to yourself to catch one of Lux's sets.

It's loud. It's unapologetic. It's the sort of music that makes you wonder whether your ears are being assaulted or liberated, and the answer is yes. I had an amazing time and the photos don't quite capture the atmosphere, but they'll give you an idea. The rest you'll have to experience for yourself.
