Her Turf, Her Party

It's time to properly wrap up my Monday.

I told you about my roller-skating history yesterday, but my rounds on the rink were interrupted by something that demanded our attention. We had an anniversary to celebrate: the day Opie first set foot on these lands, which she'd soon claim as her turf and turn into a remarkably profitable business.

I've been a loyal customer of the Opiates for quite a while now, and judging by the turnout, I'm hardly the only one.

Now, I've been to parties thrown by influential people before. It's what happens when you're beautiful like me and have an agency managing your business. Sometimes you're simply there as eye candy, and the more successful you become, the more influential the people whose parties you get sent to. It's a mutually beneficial arrangement. You make their party look better, and being seen at their party doesn't exactly hurt you either. Plus, it pays a lot of money. That helps keep the brand rolling.

Anyway.

I'm always fascinated by how people behave at those gatherings. Are they actually relaxed, or can you tell that showing up, smiling at the right people and appearing appropriately friendly is very much in their own best interest? Are they having a good time, or are they there to pay their respects?

At Opie's party, we clearly came to pay ours. Just not out of fear.

After all, she already has the people she needs on a leash, and she's holding the other end of it. The rest of us are free to roam around, grab a handful of pills and enjoy the night.

And that's what we did.

We added another page to our own stories with Opie. Each of us has one, and somehow none of them are boring. We made some new memories, celebrated a woman who's become rather difficult to imagine this place without, and behaved as responsibly as you would expect from a room full of Opiates.

And in case none of us remembers any of it, I took photos.
