So, it was finally, actually, really Halloween.
After what feels like several weeks of celebrating it, we've somehow made it to the day itself. And since I visited quite a few places, I'm going to take you through my Halloween adventures in a couple of posts. I mean, every place had its own particular scare factor, and I wouldn't want you passing out from too much excitement all at once. Because, it's a bit like sex, really. I prefer to feed you little bits of excitement, build up the tension, keep you wanting more, and make the whole thing last as long as possible.
So, let's get started with NITE.
Now, that's not the chronological order of things, but please. I'm not going to start organizing my adventures just to make your life easier. I'm not your mother. Although you can be my daddy.
Anyway. NITE. I have something of a love-hate relationship with the place. The people? I absolutely adore them. The ones who make it all happen, the ones who show up, the creativity, the effort, the sheer enthusiasm that goes into everything. It's all fabulous. There's always a certain hype surrounding NITE. Excitement, anticipation, people talking about it, wanting to be there, desperate not to miss out. So naturally, I fit right in.
But there's the matter of my camera. Now, that camera is a rather simple thing. It doesn't ask for much. Just a little light. Preferably the flattering kind, although with the people I photograph, that's hardly a necessity. Unfortunately, that occasionally conflicts with the extraordinary visual effects the people at NITE create. And don't get me wrong, those effects are amazing. The atmosphere, the darkness, the lights, the whole experience. I love it.
But my camera doesn't always share my enthusiasm. Fortunately, this time there were some wonderful moments when everything came together. The lights behaved, the effects gave me a little breathing room, and I could finally swing that lens around and capture some of you looking absolutely spectacular. And that made me happy.
Because, as I've been telling you all week, we really are a ridiculously gorgeous bunch.
Horrifically gorgeous, in this particular case.
The costumes, the faces, the creatures, the imagination that went into all of it. Some of you were frightening, some were disturbing, some were downright terrifying, and quite a few managed to be incredibly sexy at the same time. Which is really my favorite combination.
And all that effort deserves to be seen. We need to see it, share it, remember it. Because once Halloween is over, the masks come off, the monsters disappear, and we'll all go back to thinking we're really respectable people again. Well, most of you will. I never really bothered with that part.
So here you go and remember, this is only the beginning. I've got plenty more Halloween to show you. Don't get too excited just yet.
I'd hate for you to finish before I do.
