Reverse FOMO

I have reverse FOMO. Not much, but it's there.

But first, I might need to explain the concept to you. Unlike the regular fear of missing out, reverse FOMO is the fear that wherever I don't go, people will miss out.

On me.

To you, this might sound like the ultimate achievement, and I won't deny that it comes with certain benefits. But honestly, it also puts a considerable strain on me. Because I know you all love me, and that is why I love all of you.

So I want to be with all of you. Everywhere. All the time. But I can't. There's only one Doreen, people.

And while I understand that this is a problem of considerable magnitude, I haven't found a practical solution yet. The least I can do is take pictures wherever I go and share them with you. That way, even if we weren't actually together, we sort of were.
You're welcome.

So let me tell you about yesterday, because looking back, there was a bit of a theme to the evening. But I'll get to that later.

I started at Sinners. Not somewhere I visit particularly often, but Soetkina sent me an invitation because she was doing a set there, and I was curious to hear her play. I'm glad I went.

It keeps surprising me how many of you turn out to be DJs. Seriously. I'll be talking to someone for weeks, sometimes months, and suddenly they're behind a set of decks. It seems everybody has a secret life. Well, not that secret, obviously. I just didn't know about it, which, considering who I am, is somewhat concerning.

Anyway, Soet is now officially added to my mental DJ column. Congratulations, darling.

After that, I went to Sonance and I can already hear you. "Again, Doreen? Weren't you just there two days ago?" Yes.

Yes, I was. But fuck me, those Grunge AF nights in that basement bar are so good. The atmosphere, the people, the live performances. It all works so incredibly well in that space. And Ivy Fadel was no exception. Great performance, great vibe, gorgeous people. What's not to love?

I took pictures at both places, by the way. And no, I haven't separated them into two sets. It's a bit like my sex life… throw everyone together and see what you end up with.

Which brings me back to that theme I mentioned earlier.

Because I started the evening at Sinners, then I went down into a basement at Sonance and somehow, later that night, we ended up in my own basement again. You remember the one. Dark. Small dance floor. Bar.

Stuff.

Well, let's just say that down there, sinners and basements came together rather beautifully… Funny how these things work out, isn't it? Anyway, here are the pictures from the parts of the evening I can show you.

As for the rest?

Reverse FOMO, darling.

You should have been there. 💋
