So, my first stop on Halloween night was Afterneath.
Now, Afterneath isn't exactly a full-blown Halloween affair, and I like that. Not everyone feels the need to dress up as something horrible, bloody or recently deceased. Some people are perfectly happy being horrible without putting on a costume. And that's one of the things I like about the place, you can be whoever you want, whatever you want, and nobody's going to make a fuss about it. Dress up, dress down, dress like you've just crawled out of a grave, or simply show up as yourself.
Although, judging by some of the people I've met lately, I'm not that sure where the costume ends and the real person begins.
Anyway.
Everyone around me certainly made an effort, and Nikki had once again put together a line-up worthy of her monthly event. So Halloween was, in a way, almost a coincidence. Afterneath would have been a great party regardless of what the calendar said.
Not that you'd have guessed that from looking around.
Because, again, everyone looked fabulous. The outfits, the faces, the creatures, the occasional exposed body part that deliberately got exposed in public. I loved it all.
And what I particularly enjoy about Afterneath is the atmosphere. People are chatty, friendly, enjoying the music and, perhaps more importantly, enjoying each other and there's something rather lovely about that.
Yes, you have to descend a few flights of stairs to get there, and the place is about as far removed from daylight as you can get without actually being buried, but the spirits are always high at Afterneath.
So this was the first of my Halloween adventures, I've already shown you NITE. Yes, I know, the chronology is all over the place, but we've discussed this. I'm not your mother, and I refuse to start keeping a diary just to make your life easier.
Tomorrow, if you've recovered from all this excitement, I'll take you to The Drip and VICE, where I ran into even more amazing people and collected another rather impressive number of photographs.
But for now, enjoy Afterneath.
And remember, sometimes the best things happen underground.
