Everyone Is Invited
Oh, lovely, glorious, amazing Hedos. You did it again.
Yesterday the Friendship Valley Music Festival opened its doors for its 12th edition, this time celebrating ten years of the Hedonism group in our world. Ten years. Amazing.
It's only my second FVMF, mind you. That's what happens when you decide to move abroad for years and then return expecting everyone to fill you in on what you missed. So I don't share all those collective memories of festivals past. I wasn't there for the legendary sets, the disasters that became stories, the people who met there and are still together, or whatever else everyone starts reminiscing about after their third drink.
But that's also the lovely thing about FVMF. You don't need the history.
It's for everyone. Friends, friends of friends, people you've never met before and anyone who simply likes music, dancing and enjoying themselves in the company of several hundred other people who had exactly the same idea.
And apparently everyone had that idea yesterday. Seriously. Everyone showed up.
I've been in crowded places before. Most of us have. But yesterday was something else entirely. I occasionally get comments about my rather small hips, but at times like this I'm rather grateful for them. They gave me at least some chance of squeezing my way through the crowd.
Barely.
And let's not even begin about my camera. The poor thing. I won't bore you with technicalities, because I've learned that discussing camera settings is a remarkably efficient way of making people suddenly remember they need another drink. But take it from me: yesterday it proved once again exactly why I love it so much. It worked very, very hard.
So yes, those were the minor complications. Now for the things that actually matter.
First: this place looks fucking amazing.
The Hedos always build something spectacular for FVMF, but honestly, this place makes Woodstock look like having a few beers with friends in someone's garden. It's huge, beautiful, ridiculous and filled with details that you'll probably miss because someone you know walks past every twelve seconds and distracts you.
Then there's the lineup. I doubt many of us have the stamina, free time or pharmaceutical assistance required to make it through every single hour of FVMF, but everything I heard yesterday was fantastic. Set after set, hour after hour, with a great lineup that makes leaving feel like a very bad decision.
And finally, of course, there are the people. That's really what it's about.
Seeing everyone together. Running into people you know, people you haven't seen in ages and people you've somehow managed never to meet before. Dancing, talking, hugging, flirting, misbehaving and simply sharing this enormous thing that a group of people built because they wanted everyone else to have a fucking great time.
And they succeeded. FVMF really is one of those highlights of our world.
Best of all, we're only halfway through.
Day two starts today at 8 AM and runs all the way until 11 PM. So if you have the time, come join us. And if you don't have the time, I'd seriously consider cancelling whatever supposedly important thing is standing in your way.
It's amazing.
But I think I already told you that.
