Just the Four

My list can get very full on a Sunday night.

And you know me. I always feel this slightly unreasonable need to be everywhere, see everyone and preferably photograph most of them while I'm there. It can get a little overwhelming.

It's a bit like cute guys. There are so many of them, and naturally you'd like to take each and every one home. But if you do try that at some point, you have to accept that it might become a bit much.

Trust me.

I've been trying to keep that in mind lately, so this Sunday my selection was positively modest. By my standards, anyway.

I started at Bardeco, for several good reasons. First, I simply love shooting there. Good lighting, great people. A place that actually seems to understand that photographers have needs too. Add to that the fact that I hadn't been there for a while, and Malphas was playing. He's a friend, a lovely guy and a great DJ, so that made the first decision of the evening rather easy.

From there I went underground.

More specifically, to the cave, or the Grotto of Sanctum, as people with better branding skills apparently decided to call it. Kess was playing and delivering a lovely flow of music. I like those little intermezzos in a night. Not necessarily the destination, but a change of atmosphere, a different spot, different faces and enough time to reset before moving on again.

Which was useful, because next came Steph at Elysion. Going to her set is becoming something of a Sunday ritual. It's not for everyone, and that has absolutely nothing to do with Steph. Elysion is members-only, so getting through the door requires a little more commitment than simply turning up. The fact that I became a member specifically to attend Steph's sets and, months later, still haven't properly explored the rest of the place probably tells you everything you need to know about my priorities.

One day.

Probably.

And then, finally, Warehouse 21.

That's another one that's more or less fixed in my calendar, largely because of Fredy's regular Sunday set. It just works so well for me. The music, the people, the conversations and Fredy's set is consistently great, so Warehouse 21 has become one of my favourite ways to close a weekend.

So there you have it. Bardeco. Sanctum. Elysion. Warehouse 21. Four places in one evening. Restraint.

I'm very proud of myself.
