Laundry Day
Let me share one of the more trivial matters of my life with you, because I'm starting to suspect that some of you think my existence consists entirely of sex, glitter, glamour, amazing people, sex, clubs, drinks, drugs and sex.
You're not wrong.
But I am no stranger to the more grounded realities of life either. Monday, for instance, is laundry day. Everything I've been wearing throughout the week, including whatever made me shine over the weekend, is collected by the team, brought to the dry cleaners and returned a little later.
I know. It's a hassle.
But these things have to be done, and in that regard I'm really no different from any of you.
Obviously, I don't wear my entire wardrobe in the space of a week. My stylists select things for each occasion, make sure I'm not photographed wearing the same outfit twice and, since by now practically every social event I attend involves a camera somewhere, ensure that I look like the best-dressed person at the party.
It's a burden we all carry differently.
Still, laundry day does leave me with somewhat limited options, which is why I was rather pleased when Riri provided a solution.
I've been seeing Riri at various events over the past few months. Not constantly, but whenever she was around she tended to catch both my eye and my lens. We've been talking more lately, and she told me about a superhero party she was helping organise at HiLife.
The concept was simple: dress as a superhero or heroine and make your way over.
Perfect.
For once, I could simply dress up as someone else. Suddenly the contents of my own wardrobe didn't matter. Problem solved. What surprised me was what happened when I arrived.
Not everyone was dressed as me.
I mean...
If you invite people to a superhero party, and all of those people know me, surely there's only one valid interpretation of the assignment?
Apparently not. I'm not saying there wasn't creativity. There absolutely was. Heroes, heroines, capes, masks, impressive outfits. People had clearly put thought into it. It's just that when the correct answer is right there in front of you, deliberately choosing something subpar seems unnecessarily complicated.
Still, I took pictures.
Have a look. Study them carefully. Appreciate the effort and perhaps remember this for next time. When someone asks you to dress as a superhero, you now know who to pick.
Me.
