As we're nearing the end of Halloween season, or at least I sincerely hope we are, I think it's time to take stock. Did it deliver? Did we deliver? Did we get everything out of it that we possibly could? And, perhaps most importantly, did it leave a mark? Well, looking at my body, I think we can safely answer that last question with a resounding yes.
Which is why Stigmata seemed like a particularly appropriate destination yesterday. If only to finally put on some clean clothes, get my hair back in order and treat myself to a fresh facial. Who knows, I might even get another one later that night.
But personal maintenance wasn't the only reason to head down to the Stig.
You see, yesterday's programme featured not one, but two DJ debuts. Both Peanut and Kiky were making their first appearances behind the decks, and I was rather curious to see how that would turn out. Now, I know what you're thinking. Two debut sets? That's not exactly the sort of line-up that usually gets people all hot and bothered, is it?
Well, you'd have been wrong, because both of them delivered fabulous sets. Peanut got things going beautifully, proving that being new to the decks doesn't mean being new to knowing what makes people move. And then there was Kiky.
Oh, Kiky.
She decided to go for a metal vibe and metal isn't usually what gets me going on a dance floor. I tend to reserve that sort of thing for the afterparties. You know, cuffs, chains, spikes, perhaps a little leather and someone who knows what they're doing with all of it. So under normal circumstances, I might have taken that as my cue to skip straight to the afterparty. But I'm very glad I didn't.
Because, as it turns out, you can do some pretty amazing things with that kind of music. Kiky put together a set that kept me interested, moving and, perhaps most surprisingly, enjoying myself. So, wow, Kiky. Seriously.
And Peanut too, of course. Two debuts, two great sets, and a very good reminder that sometimes the people you haven't heard play before are precisely the ones you should be listening to. So that's what it sounded like at Stigmata yesterday, during what I suppose we're calling the early hours now. With everyone walking around on different clocks for a week, I've more or less given up trying to figure out what time it is anyway.
Not that I've ever been particularly concerned with the time. Unless someone's paying me by the hour, obviously.
But enough about what it sounded like. You want to know what it looked like, don't you? Well, naturally, I've got you covered.
As usual.
